How to Hide a Recovery Partition (or Other Drive) in Windows<\/p>\n

PC manufacturers often include recovery partitions. These are usually hidden, but sometimes\u00a0appear\u00a0<\/span>under This PC\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as elsewhere in Windows. Here\u2019s\u00a0the way to\u00a0<\/span>hide a recovery partition\u2014or\u00a0the other\u00a0<\/span>drive.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll be removing a partition\u2019s drive letter\u00a0to cover\u00a0<\/span>it. The partition will still be visible to disk management tools, but it won\u2019t appear in Explorer\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as normal desktop applications.\u00a0you’ll\u00a0<\/span>always reassign a drive letter\u00a0thereto\u00a0<\/span>within the\u00a0<\/span>future.<\/p>\n

How to Hide a Recovery Partition (or Other Drive) in Windows<\/p>\n

Option One: Use Disk Management<\/p>\n

For many partitions,\u00a0you’ll\u00a0<\/span>do that\u00a0<\/span>with the graphical Disk Management tool. To open it on Windows 10, right-click\u00a0the beginning\u00a0<\/span>button (or press Windows+X),\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then click the \u201cDisk Management\u201d option.<\/p>\n

To open it on Windows 7, open your Start menu, type \u201chard disk\u201d into the search box,\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then click the \u201cCreate\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as format\u00a0hard disc\u00a0<\/span>partitions\u201d shortcut.<\/p>\n

Locate the partition\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to cover\u00a0<\/span>.\u00a0for instance\u00a0<\/span>, if\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to cover\u00a0<\/span>the drive that has the letter \u201cD:\u201d under File Explorer,\u00a0search for\u00a0<\/span>the partition that has the letter \u201cD:\u201d under\u00a0the quantity\u00a0<\/span>column\u00a0within the\u00a0<\/span>Disk Management window.<\/p>\n

Right-click that partition,\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then select the \u201cChange Drive Letter\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as Paths\u201d commas well as.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t see any options\u00a0aside from\u00a0<\/span>\u201cHelp \u201cwhen you right-click a drive,\u00a0still\u00a0<\/span>subsequent\u00a0<\/span>section instead. You\u2019ll\u00a0got to\u00a0<\/span>use the diskpart commas well\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>remove the drive letter. The graphical interface won\u2019t\u00a0allow you to\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Select the drive letter\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to get rid of\u00a0<\/span>within the\u00a0<\/span>window that appears, click the \u201cRemove\u201d button,\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then click the \u201cOK\u201d button.<\/p>\n

How to Hide a Recovery Partition (or Other Drive) in Windows<\/p>\n

Each partition generally has only\u00a0one\u00a0<\/span>drive letter. If the partition has multiple drive letters assigned\u00a0thereto\u00a0<\/span>, you\u2019ll probably want\u00a0to get rid of\u00a0<\/span>each from here.<\/p>\n

Windows warns you that programs\u00a0might not\u00a0<\/span>run correctly if you remove the drive letter.\u00a0for instance\u00a0<\/span>, if you installed an application on this drive or stored important files\u00a0thereon\u00a0<\/span>, you won\u2019t be\u00a0ready to\u00a0<\/span>access them while the drive doesn\u2019t have a letter assigned\u00a0thereto\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Click \u201cYes\u201d to continue.<\/p>\n

If the drive is currently in use, you\u2019re warned\u00a0that you simply\u00a0<\/span>must restart your PC\u00a0to end\u00a0<\/span>the method\u00a0<\/span>. Click \u201cYes\u201d again,\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then restart your PC. The drive won\u2019t be visible in Windows after you finish this process<\/p>\n

If\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to form\u00a0<\/span>the drive visible again\u00a0within the\u00a0<\/span>future, head back to the Disk Management tool,\u00a0attend\u00a0<\/span>the Change Drive Letter\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as Paths window,\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then click the \u201cAdd\u201d button\u00a0to feature\u00a0<\/span>a drive letter\u00a0thereto\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n

How to Hide a Recovery Partition (or Other Drive) in Windows<\/p>\n

Give the drive\u00a0an equivalent\u00a0<\/span>letter\u00a0because it\u00a0<\/span>had before\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as everything should work properly,\u00a0albeit\u00a0<\/span>you installed applications on the drive before you removed its drive letter.<\/p>\n

Option Two: Run the Diskpart Commas well as<\/p>\n

The Disk Management tool can\u2019t work with every partition.\u00a0to cover\u00a0<\/span>stubborn partitions, you\u2019ll\u00a0got to\u00a0<\/span>run the diskpart commas well as.<\/p>\n

First, identify the drive letter of the partition\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to cover\u00a0<\/span>.\u00a0you’ll\u00a0<\/span>find this under This PC in File Explorer on Windows 10, or under Computer in Windows Explorer on Windows 7.<\/p>\n

For example,\u00a0within the\u00a0<\/span>screenshot below,\u00a0we would like\u00a0<\/span>to cover\u00a0<\/span>the \u201cG:\u201d drive.<\/p>\n

This commas well as must be run from a Commas well as Prompt window launched with Administrator permissions. To launch one, open your Start menu, type \u201ccmd\u201d into the search box, right-click \u201cCommas well as Prompt\u201d result,\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>because the\u00a0<\/span>select the \u201cRun as Administrator\u201d commas well as.<\/p>\n

At the prompt, launch the tool by typing\u00a0the subsequent\u00a0<\/span>commas well as\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as hitting Enter:<\/p>\n

Note that the prompt changes to \u201cDISKPART>\u201d\u00a0to point\u00a0<\/span>that you\u2019re now inside that tool. Type\u00a0the subsequent\u00a0<\/span>commas well as\u00a0also\u00a0<\/span>as then hit Enter to list the volumes attached to your computer:<\/p>\n

Identify\u00a0the quantity\u00a0<\/span>number of the partition\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to cover\u00a0<\/span>.\u00a0for instance\u00a0<\/span>,\u00a0we would like\u00a0<\/span>to cover\u00a0<\/span>the partition with the drive letter G:, which\u00a0we will\u00a0<\/span>see is \u201cVolume 1\u201d\u00a0within the\u00a0<\/span>above screenshot.<\/p>\n

Run\u00a0the subsequent\u00a0<\/span>commas well\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>select the partition, replacing # with\u00a0the amount\u00a0<\/span>of the volume:<\/p>\n

In our example,\u00a0we would like\u00a0<\/span>to pick\u00a0<\/span>volume 1, so we\u2019d run\u00a0the subsequent\u00a0<\/span>commas well as:<\/p>\n

select volume 1<\/p>\n

Run\u00a0the subsequent\u00a0<\/span>commas well\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>remove the drive letter, replacing G with the letter\u00a0you would like\u00a0<\/span>to remove:<\/p>\n

The recovery partition or\u00a0the other\u00a0<\/span>drive will instantly be hidden.<\/p>\n

Of course, you can\u2019t use either\u00a0of those\u00a0<\/span>tricks\u00a0to cover\u00a0<\/span>the Windows system drive, which\u00a0is generally\u00a0<\/span>located at C:. Windows needs this partition available to function<\/p>\n
